ASUS – ROG STRIX NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 OC thermal pad sizes

Several sources report that replacing the pads on the front of the VRAMs brings satisfying results.

VRAMs can be replaced with 2mm on both side, but even 3mm can work on the back.

For a full replacement you will need various thicknesses like 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm and even 2.5mm sizes where you may need to stack the proper sizes to reach that height.

Please see the attached pictures.

VRAM front:80x40x2mm
VRAM back:80x40x2mm
Pads on the sides:1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm

Sizes guide

  • The scrissor sign next to a size means it can be cut out from that slice of thermal pad. It is not the actual size! Example: 80x40x2mm
  • One dimension size means it’s the thickness of that pad. Example: 1mm
  • Two or three dimension sizes – with no scrissor sign – means it’s most probably an actual size. Example 100x14x1.5mm

About sizes

Sizes you find here come from various sources. Most of them reported by my clients whom successfully replaced their GPUs’ factory thermal pads with high quality aftermarket pads – getting significant results in their temperature drop. Some of these sizes are actual measurements and others just collected from random users on such websites like Reddit, YouTube or official / unofficial forums.

Do your own research

Please note that I cannot take any responsibility for the sizes appearing here. Do your own research as well before buying and replacing anything.

Tips

  • Make sure your pads and GPU die contacts well with the heatsink.
  • Always test your graphic cards and devices in controlled environment.

Does anyone know the thermal pad thickness and where they go on a 3070 white Strix?

Does this apply to the 3080 Ti too? Or do I reference the 3090 for the 3080 Ti?

    Thanks, it all works nice.

Near the power input terminals, the 1mm thermal pads do not touch the heatsink and are not connecte d to anything?

This guide comes from a reddit post where someone followed the EK water block installation guide. It has thermal pads in places where originally there were none and also in places that do not connect with the heatsink. Thermal pads have isolation properties when not connected to anything so I would advise watching a YouTube disassembly video and also looking at strix 3070 thermal pads guide.
